One Book Wonders Lesson 4: Beware of False Prophets

The emphasis upon spiritual maturity and stability in 2 Peter 1 prepares the way for the issue of false teachers in chapter two. One cannot respond appropriately to the threat of false teachers apart from a firm grounding the in Word of God. False prophets have always presented a threat to the people of God, both in the OT and the NT. As in ancient times, the contemporary church must be on guard against false teaching. 2 Peter 2 may be divided into three sections: 1) a warning of false prophets among the people 2) a description of the character of false prophets and 3) a pronouncement of doom upon false teachers.
