The Jewish council did not have the legal right to put Jesus to death, so the case was brought before Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor. John emphasizes the interview between Pilate and Jesus and gives more detail than the other gospel writers. Three times in this passage we read the phrase, “I nd no fault in him!” Jesus was unjustly condemned. He was the sinless Son of God, who voluntarily gave his life for sinners.
