Hebrews Lesson 3: Be Faithful

Hebrews 3 challenges Christian to be faithful in their commitment to Christ. Jesus, who is greater than Moses, is set forth as a positive example of faithfulness. Believers are exhorted to consider Jesus (3:1) and to endure steadfastly until the end (3:4, 14). On the other hand, Israel is o ered as a negative example. They hardened their hearts, provoked the Lord in the wilderness, and experienced God's judgment. We should avoid Israel's example of unfaithfulness. In a striking way the author of Hebrews applies an ancient text (Psalm 95) to his contemporary setting, and he appeals to the Psalm as what "the Holy Spirit says" (3:7). Even today, God's words continue to speak, exhorting us to be faithful in our commitment to Christ.
