Daniel Sermon 5: Daniel's Remarkable Vision

Bible  scholars  recognize  that  Daniel  7  may  be  the  most  significant  chapter  in  the  book.  Up  to  this  point,  the  reader  has  been  given  insight  into  Daniel's  background,  character,  and  God-given  wisdom,  but  now  the  focus  turns  from  historical  narrative  to  apocalyptic  visions.  Here  the  reader  encounters  the  most  detailed  and  comprehensive  prophecy  of  future  events  found  anywhere  in  the  Old  Testament.  The  vision  of  chapter  7  parallels  the  vision  of  chapter  2,  yet  it  states  more  explicitly  that  Messiah  himself  will  head  the  final  kingdom  of  righteousness.  The  chapter  divides  into  two  equal  parts;  the  vision  (7:1-14)  and  the  interpretation  (7:15-28).  The  ultimate  fulfillment  of  the  vision  still  lies  in  the  future,  yet  believers  should  be  encouraged  to  live  kingdom-focused  lives  in  light  of  the  temporary  character  of  earthly  powers  and  the  eternal  nature  of  the  Messianic  kingdom.
