Bible in 100 Days Lesson 8: The Lord is my Shepherd

Psalm 23 is perhaps the best known of all the psalms. It is intensely personal and expresses the goodness of God towards His people. Down through the ages many have found comfort during dark and difficult times in Psalm 23. The author of the psalm is David but the occasion is unknown. The figure of the Shepherd and the sheep is a common one in Scripture that depicts the relationship of God to His people. Jesus employed the Shepherd/ sheep figure in John 10 (see esp. John 10:11). Psalm 23 is difficult to outline. The Psalm is both exceedingly simple and complex. The introductory verse states the theme of the Psalm and everything builds off of this opening statement. What does it mean, "the Lord is my Shepherd"? What does it mean to have a personal relationship with the Lord? These questions are answered in the twenty-third Psalm.
